Grammys 2024: Killer Mike responds to arrest charges

At the Grammys on February 4th in Los Angeles, Killer Mike won three awards, and found himself arrested shortly after claiming his final prize of the evening.

Footage emerged of the Atlanta rapper being escorted out of the building in handcuffs. At this time, there is a lack of information about what happened, but it is known that Killer Mike was arrested on “misdemeanour battery” charges following a physical altercation that took place backstage.

During an appearance on a radio station in Atlanta, the Run The Jewels rapper said of the arrest: “We hit a speed bump and then we head back to the party, man. We partied all night. We winners. That’s it.”

The rapper also described the security at the event as “overzealous” before adding, “I do want to note that last night, my team and I fielded a number of calls from concerned fans and colleagues wanting to know if I was OK. I greatly appreciate the concern and support, but I am better than OK.”

He continued, “As you can imagine, there was a lot going on and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter. We experienced an overzealous security guard, but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.”

Earlier in the ceremony, Mike won a Grammy for ‘Best Rap Album’ with Michael. Meanwhile, ‘Scientists & Engineers’ won both ‘Best Rap Song’ and ‘Best Rap Performance’. As he claimed his third award on stage, he called out, “Sweep! Atlanta, it’s a sweep.”
