Grammys 2024: Killer Mike wins three awards before arrest

At the Grammys 2024, Killer Mike was the male who claimed the most awards. The rapper, 48, took home three Grammys despite being arrested for a backstage altercation at the same event.

Footage emerged from the ceremony of Killer Mike being led away from the backstage area in handcuffs. The police later revealed that he was being charged with “misdemeanour battery”.

On the evening, he won awards for ‘Best Rap Performance’, ‘Best Rap Song’, and ‘Best Rap Album’, making him the most triumphant male. However, this was overshadowed by the fact he was arrested for an altercation that took place backstage at around 4pm.

Prior to this, he had made comments backstage, citing: “At 20 years old, I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer. At 40, I started to live with the regrets and the things I’ve done. At 45, I started to rap about it. At 48, I stand here as a man full of empathy and sympathy for the things I’ve done.”

As he claimed his third award on stage, he called out, “Sweep! Atlanta, it’s a sweep.” It appears that sometime after this, the rapper was booked for a misdemeanour before being released later that evening. As of yet, neither Killer Mike nor his representatives have commented on the matter.

Presently, details are scant on the altercation in question. However, it is believed that nobody was seriously hurt, and it did not disrupt the functioning of the ceremony.

Elsewhere, Taylor Swift made history with her fourth ‘Album of the Year‘ win. She had previously been tied with Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon and Frank Sinatra on three wins.
