Grammys 2024: Taylor Swift breaks long-standing record with ‘Album of the Year’ victory

At the Grammys 2024, Taylor Swift smashed a long-standing record as Midnights claimed the ‘Album of the Year’ award. This is the Pennsylvanian musician’s fourth triumph in the coveted category.

Until now, the star had been tied with Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon and Frank Sinatra on three victories in the ‘Album of the Year’ category. However, as the bookmakers predicted, Swift finally rose to the top thanks to the chart-topping release Midnights.

Speaking about the win, Swift announced: “For me, the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy. It makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award too.”

Her previous wins for ‘Album of the Year’ were awarded for Fearless back in 2010, 1989 in 2016, and for Folklore in 2021. While she was evidently delighted to claim a fourth, Swift was quick to downplay the importance of awards in general and said she was simply delighted to be working at what she loves.

Elsewhere at the awards, there were stunning guest performances from both Billy Joel and Joni Mitchell. Joel performed his new song alongside guest star, the jazz vocalist Laufey. Meanwhile, Mitchell sat on a throne and performed, ‘Both Sides Now’.

Miley Cyrus also won her first Grammy, while Boygenius picked up ‘Best Alternative Album’, Paramore won for ‘Best Rock Album’ and Billie Eilish won ‘Song of the Year’ for ‘What Was I Made For?’ for her contribution to the Barbie soundtrack.
