Glastonbury 2025: Watch Lorde play ‘What Was That’ at huge Woodsies secret set

Lorde proves that she’s back on top with a triumphant return to Glastonbury Festival, as hit single ‘What Was That’ becomes one of the early standout moments of the weekend.

Lorde has previously called Glastonbury “the best festival in the world”, and she looked overjoyed to demarcate her album release day with a set as iconic as it was energetic.

‘What Was That’ was the first single from Lorde’s fourth full-length LP, Virgin. It debuted at number one on US Spotify and climbed to number five globally. For such a massive track with the weight of her career behind it, Lorde showed no signs of fear as she tackled the slower start, teasing the huge crowd.

After a great reception to the new tune ‘Hammer‘, which she opened the set with, the early morning audience was right behind her as she ploughed into the upbeat chorus. Cheers of “what was that!” echoed behind the Australian musician’s raspy voice, as she danced around the stage in all white.

Lorde was laidback when it came to keeping her secret a secret. She posted a picture of the Woodsies stage from above on her Instagram story yesterday and confirmed the time in the evening. Only ten minutes before the start of the performance, she started a live video from the back of the set on her Instagram.

Furthermore, when Lorde recently appeared on BBC Radio 2, she made the rumour mill burst into overdrive when discussing Glastonbury with Jo Whiley, sharing, “I am quite tempted by what’s going on because I’ve got lots of friends playing as well, we’ll see, we’ll see if I can pull some strings and get there.”

Lorde previously performed on The Other Stage in 2017 following the release of her second album, Melodrama, and returned to Glastonbury in 2022 to bring a dose of Solar Power to the Pyramid Stage as the sun set.

There are still hundreds more acts to come. Far Out are live on the ground giving you all the latest updates. The evening will see The 1975 headline The Pyramid Stage, and Loyle Carner will headline The Other Stage.
