Glastonbury 2025: Watch CMAT perform memorable ‘Take a Sexy Picture of Me’
Queen of country-pop CMAT stole the show at the Pyramid stage for an early afternoon set at Glastonbury Festival. She rattled off the bangers, including her hit single, ‘Take a Sexy Picture of Me’.
CMAT began her performance dramatically, fake fainting on the floor to sing her 2024 ‘Have Fun!’ from the stage floor. Her all-blue outfit and white sunglasses matched the all-blue fits of the rest of her band. “Glasto have some fun!” she yelled during the song.
After her first song, CMAT addressed the crowd: “My name is CMAT. I have middle child syndrome, an amazing arse, and the best Irish rock and roll country band in the world.” Throughout her performance, the band played their instruments and struck theatrical poses that echoed CMAT’s likeable vivacity. They also line danced together; two of the band members even shared a kiss during the show.
Several songs in, CMAT addressed the crowd seriously. She began, “Last year, we had the opportunity to play a lot of lovely festivals in the UK and Ireland and everywhere, and we got really big festival slots, the likes of which we’d never had before. Lots of people, like you, would come and film us on their phones.”
She continued, “What’s crazy is that these videos would then be posted on the internet, and the comment sections would fill with very, very nasty comments about my physical appearance, which is crazy, because, as you can see…” she revealed, after which she pulled off her dress to show a leatord beneath buttoned up with a patch of her own face. “I am, in fact, very sexy.”
The Pyramid Stage has a capacity of 120,000 people and is considered one of the most esteemed stages in the world. These facts did not seem to matter to the singer, who delivered a vocally perfect performance to a vast and varied crowd without a fleck of nerves. They hung on to her every word. The sheer personality was palpable.
Dissecting the beloved tune, Far Out previously wrote, “CMAT points out that it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy when women are blatantly taught to hate themselves from their earliest memory. The fact that all this weight, literal and metaphorical, can simply be cast off with the power of one sexy picture is so frivolous, but also searingly true.”
The singer will release her new album, Euro-Country, on August 29th. Of the project, CMAT said, “I think [it is] the best thing I have ever made. I felt halfway through recording it was the most important record I’ve made for myself… mainly because it was making me go crazy.”
