Glastonbury 2025: Nile Rodgers confirms appearance
Chic’s Nile Rodgers has confirmed he’ll be performing at Glastonbury Festival in 2025.
At this stage, the only act that has been revealed to play at Glastonbury next year is Rod Stewart. The former Faces frontman, who previously headlined Worthy Farm in 2002, is returning to Somerset for an appearance in the legends slot, which occurs on the Sunday afternoon (June 30th) of the festival on the Pyramid Stage.
It remains to be seen when the full line-up will be unveiled, but Rodgers looks set to join his old friend at Glastonbury in 2025.
“We’re going to have a blast because we follow him directly,” Rodgers said of Stewart’s confirmation at the Camden Roundhouse on November 28th while at the Rolling Stone UK awards, according to the Metro.
Reflecting on his longstanding friendship with Stewart, Rodgers added, “Rod and I have been friends for 80 gazillion years, so that means he’s gonna play tricks on me.”
However, the Chic guitarist is worried about the backstage antics that could occur in the company of Stewart, jokingly saying, “He’s probably gonna pinch my bum because he always does that. I don’t know what the hell he gets out of that.”
On a more sincere note, he then said: “We’re gonna have a great time together,’ he continued. ‘I don’t know who’s in his current band, but we’ll probably be jamming. Regardless of what the world may think, Rod Stewart and I; we really love each other. We really are quite close.”
It was then brought to the attention of Rodgers that he was yet to be formally announced for the festival, to which he responded, “Am I not supposed to give that away? I always say too much.”
Rodgers didn’t reveal what stage he is set to play with Chic at Glastonbury, but their last performance at the event took place on the Pyramid Stage in 2017.
For the 2024 event, Glastonbury only unveiled the line-up in March, therefore, it may be several more months before it’s revealed who will be joining Stewart and Rodgers on the farm. Artists that have been touted as potential headliners include Sam Fender, Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, Fred Again and The 1975.
Rod Stewart to lose money at Glastonbury
During an interview on TalkSport on November 27th, Stewart looked ahead to Glastonbury, claiming that he knew “immediately” that he was going to accept the opportunity to perform at Worthy Farm when it presented itself. The singer added, “It’s a great honour.”
However, Stewart also revealed the financial cost of performing at Glastonbury, stating, “It’s going to cost me a fortune to do it – $300,0000. I’ve got to bring all my band back from America, of course Glastonbury don’t pay for that. But I don’t care if it cost me $1 million, I would have done it. This is a great honour. It really is the greatest honour.”
