Glastonbury 2025: Lorde kicks off festival with surprise Woodsies set

Glastonbury Festival started energetically with Lorde’s secret set, which opened the Woodsies Stage in spectacular fashion.

Today marks the release of Lorde’s highly anticipated fourth album, Virgin, and there is no place better in the world to launch the record than Worthy Farm. While many names were speculated to occupy this special secret slot, Lorde was the act that everybody in Woodsies wanted to see, and a wave of pandemonium met her upon entering the stage.

However, the singer did ignite the rumour mill when she recently appeared on BBC Radio 2. After being asked about a potential secret set, Lorde told host Jo Whiley: “I am quite tempted by what’s going on because I’ve got lots of friends playing as well, we’ll see, we’ll see if I can pull some strings and get there.”

Lorde is no stranger to Glastonbury. Before today’s set, her last appearance was in 2022 when she performed on the Pyramid Stage, and used her platform to criticise the Roe v Wade ruling in America by leading the crowd through a chant of “fuck the Supreme Court”.

She also previously performed an early evening set on The Other Stage following the release of her second album, Melodrama, in 2017.

Her set today saw her rattle through her brand-new album Virgin in its entirety. A packed tent reacted riotously to the dancefloor filler ‘What Was That’ as she celebrated how “crazy” it was to unveil an album live at Glastonbury.

Other acts set to perform at Glastonbury on June 27th include headliners The 1975, as well as Biffy Clyro, Alanis Morissette, Loyle Carner, Gracie Abrams, Wet Leg, Inhaler, Blossoms and Lola Young. There is also a TBA set on the Pyramid Stage, which is rumoured to be Lewis Capaldi.
