Lorde tells Glastonbury crowd: “I didnt know if I would make another record”

New Zealand musician Lorde took to the Woodsies Stage for her secret set at Glastonbury Festival. After admitting it took a lot to complete, she played her new album, Virgin, from start to finish.

The singer-songwriter took to the stage on June 25th at 11:30am, opening with her new album opener, ‘Hammer’. She tore right into the album’s first single and the next tune on the fourth studio LP, ‘What Was That’.

After her third song, Lorde finally addressed the crowd. “Morning,” she declared in a sing-song voice, making light of the early hour that failed to deter a huge crowd from gathering for her first performance of the year.

“This is fucking sick. Thank you so much for being here with us on the day that Virgin is born,” she continued. “We decided to play the whole record for you front to back…this may be a one of one!”

Lorde then turned her attention to the new project, admitting, “This record took me a lot, I didn’t know if I would make another record, to be honest. But I’m back here, completely free.”

Lorde has opened up multiple times about her renewed zest for life, after curing her stage fright with MDMA and exploring her shifting gender identity, both key themes in the new album.

Again, she addressed the crowd, declaring, “I am so grateful to you for waiting. Grateful for you sitting in the sun right now. It’s going to be a sick fucking festival.” She added nearer the show’s end, “This is crazy for me!”
