Glastonbury 2024: Watch LCD Soundsystem electrifyingly perform ‘All My Friends’
In one of the stand-out moments of Glastonbury Festival so far, New York disco punk stalwarts LCD Soundsystem warmed up the Pyramid Stage for the headliner Dua Lipa with a stunning rendition of their classic track ‘All My Friends’.
Prior to the festival, the classic track, first released in 2007 on their album Sound of Silver, was picked out as a must-watch track by many punters, including Far Out’s ground staff, who described an incredible atmosphere.
This is the third time that the band have played the iconic festival in a busy summer of gigs with appearances at All Points East and plenty of other notable slots still to come. However, very few, if any, will be better attended than the huge crowd that they drew to the Pyramid Stage.
When they played the Other Stage back in 2010, they did so in front of a deflated crowd just moments after England were knocked out of the World Cup by Germany. Many folks in England jerseys swanning around Worthy Farm will hope that they don’t bring a similar omen to this year’s Euros with Gareth Southgate’s men set for their first bout in the knock-out stages on Sunday, just as Judy Collins offers up some sweet classics on the Acoustic Stage.
Earlier in the day, the queen of cosmic disco, Asha Puthli, offered something utterly unique on the West Holts Stage. Confidence Man brought the party to the Other Stage as the sun continued to beat down, and Squeeze opened the Pyramid Stage in style with classic masterpieces like ‘Up the Junction’.
However, few sets had as much resonance as LCD Soundsystem. For many fans, the performance felt like a free gift as it seemed we had seen the band for the final time when they disbanded back in 2011. At the time, frontman James Murphy explained, “I liked being the band that was relevant to me. I felt like we were about to be the band that was not relevant to me.”
Since then, he has evidently had a change of heart, but there is certainly no doubt that they’re relevant to him again now—the sincerity was positively dripping off his brow during this comeback performance.
