Gem Archer lifts lid on first Oasis rehearsal with Liam and Noel: “It really felt like we’d never split up”

Oasis guitarist Gem Archer has reflected on the first time that the band rehearsed with both Liam and Noel Gallagher this year.

Archer joined Oasis in 1999 following the departure of Bonehead, who he played alongside in the Oasis Live ’25 tour as part of a three-guitar set-up for the first time in the band’s history.

While Archer has remained close with both Gallagher brothers since their split in 2009, firstly joining Liam in Beady Eye before joining Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, however, he’d never been in the same room as both brothers during that time.

In a new interview with Guitar World, he reflected, “I hadn’t seen them together until the first day we all rehearsed. Just looking over and seeing them like five feet apart; it really felt like we’d never split up.”

Archer continued, “But of course I’ve got a guitar in my hand, we’ve got stuff to get on with, so that was it. It wasn’t all lovey-dovey or, ‘What do you want for Christmas?’ or any of that stuff! It was serious business we were getting down to.

During the same conversation, Archer also revealed that he was sworn to secrecy for many months regarding his involvement in the Oasis reunion, which extended to his closest family members.

He explained, “I knew for months and months before everybody else, which is the weirdest thing to be sitting on when people are asking you the question. Then, on the morning it was announced I got a text from my daughter, saying, ‘You lied to me!’ and a text from my son, saying, ‘That’ll be you changing your number then!’.”

As it stands, there are no Oasis dates scheduled in the calendar for the future; however, following the success of Oasis Live ’25, the expectation is that it won’t stay that way forever.

After the tour came to an end, Oasis issued the following celebratory statement, which suggested their story is not yet over, “From Gallagher Hill to the River Plate, from Croke Park on the banks of the Royal Canal to the City of Angels, the love, joy, tears and euphoria will never be forgotten. There will now be a pause for a period of reflection.”
