Foreigner’s Mick Jones reveals Parkinson’s disease diagnosis
Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones has revealed he’s been living with Parkinson’s disease for “several years”.
The English musician hasn’t played live with the iconic classic rock band since 2022. In a statement, Jones has now explained his absence from Foreigner’s farewell tour. Additionally, he also re-assured fans that he’s still involved in the band, even though he’s no longer able to perform live.
Jones wrote: “Fans will have become very aware that for some time now, I have not been performing onstage with the band. Several years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I want everyone to know that I am doing alright.”
“However, I’ve always liked to be at my best when performing onstage, and sadly, at present, I find that a bit difficult. I am still very much involved in the background with Foreigner and remain a presence. Parkinson’s is a daily struggle; the important thing is to persevere and remind myself of the wonderful career I’ve had in music,” he continued.
The guitarist concluded: “I thank all the fans who have supported Foreigner throughout the years and continue to attend our concerts — I want you to know I appreciate your support; it always means so very much to me, but especially so at this point in my life.”
Jones’ statement comes shortly after Foreigner received their first nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, ahead of a possible induction later this year.
His stepson, Mark Ronson, has spearheaded a campaign to get Foreigner onto the inductees list which has received the support of Dave Grohl, Jack Black, Slash, Chad Smith and Josh Homme.
Ronson wrote on Instagram: “Everything that made me want to be a record producer came from being in the studio watching Foreigner make records. I’m still completely in awe of the sound of those first five albums. Guitars with swagger and bite. Heavy drums that groove like a mutha with the bass. Wide layers of synths. And then there’s that voice. And those songs. It’s really crazy.”
The superstar producer added: “Yes, Mick is my stepdad and I love him more than anything. But I’m also a MEGA fan just like Dave, Jack, Slash, Chad and Josh (shown here). Enjoy this video and VOTE BABY VOTE!”
