FKA Twigs seeks $10 million in damages from Shia LaBeouf for loss of earnings and emotional distress caused
FKA Twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, is seeking $10million in damages from actor Shia LaBeouf due to loss of earnings, opportunities and emotional distress following her accusations of sexual battery, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The trial initially scheduled for April is now due to occur in October, a delay caused by Barnett and LeBeouf’s “entertainment project” scheduling conflicts.
Alongside the request for a damages verdict, Barnett alleges that the actor is withholding relevant text messages he sent about her and seeking “private financial and medical information that has no bearing on the issues in this case.”
Barnett’s lawyer also claims that the actor is seeking “private financial and medical information that has no bearing on the issues in this case.” This refers to Barnett’s medical history, which reportedly has nothing to do with the case or is irrelevant to explaining why she has been caused distress.
In court documents obtained by In Touch, LaBeouf’s lawyer wrote that Barnett alleges “mental anguish” due to not finishing her album before touring, resulting in a loss of over $1million. The response also claims that she “has not provided support for this alleged delay, the reasons behind it, or that she would have earned an extra $1million for the album’s earlier release.”
His lawyer also mentions Barnett’s “lost professional opportunities” and emotional distress, adding that her “medical bills total “$4,100 to a therapist.” Of the $10million requested for these damages, the lawyer states that this would be “financially ruinous” for LaBeouf and that Barnett’s career “appears to be thriving” due to “her relationship with Shia.”
Following the initial accusations, LaBeouf issued a statement, noting, “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behaviour made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalisations.”
The actor continued: “I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can say.”
This is a developing story.
