Fat Dog release latest single ‘Wither’

As they race towards the release of their debut album, WOOF, Fat Dog keep the hype alive with another high-octane new track. ‘Wither’ has been a staple of their now infamous live sets for a while, and in its recorded form, it sounds just as huge as it has done while being blasted out of sound systems across the festival and venue circuit.

It’s been almost a year now since Fat Dog delivered their massive debut since ‘King Of The Slugs’, moving from a word-of-mouth phenomenon as London’s worst-kept secret and into a true one-to-watch act. But for fans who have been in the know, the group have been a must-see for some time now as their live shows almost always descend into complete and utter carnage of mosh pits, crowd surfing and energy so high it risks being a health and safety hazard, or at least it did at their opening Glastonbury set.

With each new track, they’ve only been levelling that up. For a year now, they’ve been gracing festival lineups across the circuit, seeing their crowds grow in real time as more and more people come to get a glimpse at the group. Their’s is a real success story for what a solid reputation can do and how a great live show can still capture attention in a world increasingly obsessed with online presence and streaming numbers.

However, ‘Wither’, alongwith their other recent track, ‘I Am The King’, is proof that they’re more than just a gimmick. They’re more than just a good gig to see as their recordings manage to capture that high energy but with a polished and perfected finish. ‘Wither’ especially thumps with suspense and tension, having the energy of a video game or a movie car chase scene as the song swells and swells before breaking open into a crescendo.

To match, they’ve released a music video that sees the group planted into an old-school 1990s video game, complete with nostalgic graphics and cool tricks. It’s a trip that’s just as overstimulating and wild as the track and the band’s shows. As with everything to do with the band, there’s no such thing as dipping your toes in; there is only being pushed deep into the world of Fat Dog as they don’t do anything by halves, not even music videos.

It’s led with a simple, catchy lyric. “You better wither baby, before you die,” the band’s singer, Joe Love, chants over and over, primed for a big singalong moment. It’s an earworm of a line that gets stuck in the brain, spiralling round and round long after the four-minute track is over.

With a few months to go until WOOF is released on September 6th, ‘Wither’ is sure to soundtrack plenty more gigs, festival slots and ear-drum blasting nights.
