Fat Dog announce debut album ‘WOOF’
After years of tireless gigging and eight long months since the release of their debut single, Brixton five-piece Fat Dog have announced plans for their highly-anticipated debut album. Entitled WOOF, the LPis set to be released by Domino Records on September 6th, the legendary label have previously released the band’s debut single ‘King of the Slugs’ as well as the more recent ‘All the Same’.
The chances are that, even if you do not recognise Fat Dog, you have probably encountered them at a gig or a festival over the past 12 months. From their native Brixton, the Joe Love-fronted band have popped up on countless line-ups up and down the nation. Gaining a reputation for their intense and energetic live performances, Fat Dog have amassed an admirable following, given their lack of released material.
Originally, the band came together as a post-lockdown project, with Love recruiting a band to bring the music he had been writing during the pandemic to life. Since then, the group have been able to change and adapt their sound, honing their craft to appeal to live audiences.
Live music seems to be the main concern for Fat Dog, which is likely why they haven’t released much material thus far. Anybody who has attended one of their show can attest to the infectious energy and bizarre occurrences that take place, backed with a soundtrack of blaring saxophone and driving electronic beats.
Synth player Chris Hughes has more or less confirmed that live performances are what the band live for, explaining, “A lot of music at the moment is very cerebral and people won’t dance to it,” adding, “Our music is the polar opposite of thinking music”.
Whether or not the band will be able to transfer this energy into the studio remains to be seen, though the music they have released thus far would suggest they can.
Alongside the announcement of WOOF, the band have released a brand new single and music video, ‘Running’. The song follows the same sound that has come to be expected from Fat Dog, featuring Balearic beats and a constant air of unpredictability. The band is clearly very influenced by groups like Fat White Family, as is evident both within their live shows and on this new single.
WOOF will be released September 6th, via Domino. Listen to the newly unveiled single ‘Running’ below:
