‘Euphoria’ season three filming date confirmed
After a major delay in production, the HBO drama Euphoria has announced that it will officially start production on its third season starting January 2025.
The acclaimed series’ most recent season ran in February, 2022, and since then, the third batch of episodes has been subject to many different delays, including creator Sam Levinson insisting that he wanted to write the bulk of the most recent season on his own. Now in a statement, HBO has announced that most of the cast is set to return starting next year.
HBO Vice President Francesca Orsi has now expressed his thrill of returning back to the show, stating, ” I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.”
Despite the turnaround of two seasons and two specials within the span of three years, much of the delay had come down to the Hollywood strike of 2023. Due to every writer being unavailable for work, HBO pushed the start date back to March, 2024, before it was delayed again.
Due to the lengthy time between series two and three, Levinson has had to switch up the story by moving the narrative from the high school setting to one of young adulthood. One such idea had reportedly been for the season to start with a five-year time jump, one scenario of which showed Zendaya’s Rue working as a private investigator before the network decided to workshop the ideas following the strike.
On March 25th, HBO officially announced that the proposed May filming commencement had been postponed until further notice to allow him time to work on a new script. The production giant gave permission for the cast to pursue other roles in the meantime.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” HBO announced in March. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
Sadly, not everyone from the cast will be featured in the new season. Angus Cloud tragically passed away in 2023, and Barbie Ferreira has said that she is not planning on making any return to the series.
Amid the strikes and delays, each of the actors has been working on various other projects as well. Along with working as the executive producer of the show, Zendaya starred in Challengers and had reprised her role as Chani in Dune: Part Two, while Sydney Sweeney has been working on blockbusters such as Madame Web and starring as part of the main cast of The White Lotus.
As of yet, there has been no word as to when the latest season will premiere.
