Emmys 2025: Harrison Ford lands first Emmy nomination at 83

Harrison Ford has gained his first-ever nomination for an Emmy Award, days after celebrating his 83rd birthday, for his role in the second series of Apple TV’s Shrinking.

The legendary actor has been nominated in the ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Category’ alongside Ike Barinholtz, Colman Domingo, Jeff Hiller, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Michael Urie, and Bowen Yang when this year’s awards contenders were announced at a ceremony on July 15th.

It marks Ford’s first-ever nod at the Emmys, having starred in film projects much more frequently throughout his career than on television. He was previously nominated for ‘Best Actor’ at the Oscars in 1986 for Witness.

For the part of his role in Shrinking, he stars opposite Jason Segel as the psychotherapist Paul Rhoades, who mentors Segel’s character Jimmy in their workplace.

Ford, whose character lives with Parkinson’s disease in the series, has been praised for his portrayal of the condition, having taken inspiration from actor and activist Michael J Fox.

Subsequently, it has been confirmed that Fox will appear in the next series of Shrinking, although details of his role have not yet been specified.

Ford’s nomination at the 2025 Emmys comes after he narrowly missed out on a nod last year, with the award for his category going to Moss-Bachrach for his role in The Bear.

However, the show did pick up the nominations in 2024 for ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series’ for Jason Segel and ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series’ for Jessica Williams.

This year’s Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on September 12th, 2025, with shows including Severance, Hacks, and Adolescence leading nominations across the categories.
