Donald Trump claims he’s responsible for “woke singer” Taylor Swift losing popularity in impassioned defence of Sydney Sweeney
Donald Trump has launched an attack on Taylor Swift, describing her as a “woke singer” who is “NO LONGER HOT”, while defending Sydney Sweeney’s new campaign with American Eagle.
Last week, Sweeney teamed up with American Eagle for the Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans campaign, a play on “jeans” and “genes”. It has since been mocked by fellow musicians Doja Cat and Lizzo, as well as being accused of promoting eugenics.
Following criticism, American Eagle stood firm and defended their collaboration with the Euphoria star, stating, “Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
JD Vance also involved himself in the conversation, saying on the Ruthless podcast last week, “My political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi. That appears to be their actual strategy.”
Then, over the weekend, it emerged that Sweeney registered as a Republican voter in June 2024 shortly after moving to Florida, and as a result, Trump has come to the defence of the actor.
Firstly, he said to reporters on a runway in Pennsylvania on August 3rd: “She’s a registered Republican? Now I love her ad.” The President also stated of Sweeney’s alleged political affiliation, “That’s one I wouldn’t have known, but I’m glad you told me that.”
Now, in a new post on Truth Social, Trump said on August 3rd: “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are “flying off the shelves.” Go get ‘em Sydney! On the other side of the ledger, Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement, THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER! The CEO just resigned in disgrace, and the company is in absolute turmoil.”
He labelled the Jaguar advert from 2024, which was a 30-second advert featuring models in bright clothing without showing a single car, as a “disgraceful ad”. Trump also claimed Jaguar should “have learned a lesson from Bud Lite”, referring to the company using transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney in a social media campaign in 2023, which he says “went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short campaign, the Company.”
Trump then turned his attention to Swift. Last year, after she endorsed Kamala Harris in the election, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”, which he has now claimed caused the world’s biggest musician to lose popularity.
He continued: “Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”
Trump concluded his culture war tirade by writing: “The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Despite Trump’s claims that Swift is “NO LONGER HOT,” her most recent tour grossed over $2 billion in ticket sales across 149 shows spanning five continents, making it the highest-grossing tour of all time. Additionally, her Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film became the highest-grossing concert film of all time, notching up sales above $260 million at the box office.
