Damon Albarn to score Luca Guadagnino’s new movie ‘Artificial’
Damon Albarn has revealed he’s set to score the soundtrack for Luca Guadagnino’s new movie, Artificial.
The upcoming film is set to explore the brief period in 2023 when Sam Altman was removed as CEO of OpenAI before being rehired several days later.
Per the logline for the movie, which is currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios, Artificial will be a “comedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence”.
The cast is set to feature Andrew Garfield as Altman, as well as Monica Barbaro, Yura Borisov, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman and Mark Rylance. Ike Barinholtz has also been cast to play Elon Musk.
Albarn has now confirmed his involvement in the soundtrack, saying in a new interview with Uncut, “I’m currently working on the score to Luca Guadagnino’s film Artificial, about [OpenAI CEO] Sam Altman. I’m singing some songs and writing some electronic and orchestral backing.”
This would not be Albarn’s first step into the world of soundtracks, having first entered this realm in 1999 with Ravenous and 101 Reykjavík.
Guadagnino has worked extensively in the past with Nine Inch Nails duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on his films. Meanwhile, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke provided the music for his 2018 film, Suspiria.
As it stands, no release date has been confirmed for Artificial.
Elsewhere, in the same new interview, Albarn also opened up about Gorillaz’s new album, The Mountain, set for release on February 27th, admitting, “This is the most emotional album I’ve ever made, certainly as Gorillaz. The lyric about being a chastened man on ‘The Empty Dream Machine’, I do mean that.”
To support the new record, Gorillaz are set to head out on an arena tour in the UK and Ireland, which will begin in March. Then, in the summer, they will headline Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London and top the bill at a number of European festivals, including Primavera Sound.
