D4vd named as “target” of grand jury murder investigation into Celeste Rivas

D4vd has been identified as the “target” of the grand jury investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas.

Rivas’, who was 14 at the time of her death, decomposing body was discovered in a Hollywood tow yard on September 8th, and later identified by the Los Angeles Police Department on September 17th.

D4vd, real name David Anthony Burke, subsequently cancelled all of his future shows.

It was later reported by ABC News in November 2025 that Burke was considered a suspect in the police investigation, and now, recently unsealed court documents, obtained by Rolling Stone, have formally identified him as the “target” of the probe.

The document was filed in Texas and sought testimony from Burke’s father, Dawud Burke, on February 11th, 2026. The filing listed D4vd as an individual who “may be involved in having committed” a crime that is alleged to be “one count of murder”.

The new court documents have also unveiled more details surrounding the discovery of Rivas’ body at the tow yard, which came after a manager reported a “strong smell of decay” from the vehicle.

The filings read (via NBC News), “Detectives approached the vehicle which was parked on the upper deck of the impound lot and immediately noticed a smell of decaying biological material consistent with a decomposing corpse coming from the front storage compartment of the vehicle.”

It adds, “Utilizing black latex gloves, detectives partially unzipped the bag and observed a decomposed head and torso.”

Detectives “discovered the arms and legs had been severed from the body” upon removing the first cadaver bag from the vehicle. A second black bag was then found underneath where the first was located. The filing states, “Upon opening the second bag, the dismembered body parts were discovered.”

Burke has not been charged or arrested with any crime.
