Chappell Roan admits feeling “quite nervous” as only pop headliner of Mexico festival

Chappell Roan has admitted she felt “quite nervous” before taking to the stage as the only pop headliner of a festival in Mexico over the weekend.

The singer took to the stage at Corona Capital 2025 on November 15th, joining a very rock-oriented lineup including the likes of Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, and Queens of the Stone Age.

This left the ‘Pink Pony Club’ star feeling a little out of place, as she reflected in a new Instagram post afterwards, on November 17th. “I was quite nervous for Mexico City because I wasn’t sure if the crowd would vibe with me because it’s such a rock leaning festival and I was like, ‘will people still like me if I’m pop?’,” she wrote in the caption.

Posting pictures of herself in her typical theatrical attire, this time a custom-made costume from Alexander McQueen of a screaming banshee, she added: “But OMG the crowd was so wonderful and I felt so loved and supported!”

She concluded: “So so sick I got to do this, thank you for having me. l will continue practicing my Spanish every day. ¡Gracias!”

Despite her world-beating domination in the pop realm, Roan has been clear about wanting to take the next stages of her career at her own pace, recently confirming that she is in “no rush” to make a second album as a follow-up to the stellar success of The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess

However, even though she claimed she thought she wouldn’t feel comfortable within the rock leagues, Roan is certainly making her presence known within the illustrious scene. Most recently, she had the honour of inducting music legend Cyndi Lauper into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Cleveland ceremony on November 8th.

Sharing her respect for Lauper, Roan said when the news was announced: “I actually auditioned with ‘True Colors’ for America’s Got Talent when I was 13. I didn’t make it, but the song is still incredible. I’m so excited, thank you for having me.”

After her performance in Mexico City, Roan is now set to take a short break from the live stage for the rest of the year, before returning to perform at Laneway Festival across Australia and New Zealand in February 2026.
