Cannes 2025: Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ to premiere at film festival

The latest instalment of the Mission: Impossible series, Mission: Impossible: The Last Reckoning, is set to premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. This film is the eighth in the spy franchise and will premiere out of competition on May 14th in France. Additionally, Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie will attend the screening.

This will be Cruise’s third appearance at the iconic festival. The first was the release of Ron Howard’s Far and Away in 1992, followed by the release of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022. During his last visit, he was awarded an honorary Palme d’Or and gave a masterclass to the audience. The festival recently announced that Robert De Niro will be receiving a similar award this year.

In Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Cruise plays the character of Ethan Hunt, who he has portrayed since the beginning of the franchise in 1996. In a press statement released by Cannes, they wrote, “After almost three decades of thrills, stunts and intrigue, ‘The Final Reckoning’ delivers an unforgettable cinematic experience.”

Alongside Cruise, the highly anticipated film stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny and Angela Bassett.

Earlier this week, a high-octane trailer for the forthcoming movie was released, which shows Cruise hanging on for dear life on a plane, which provides a glimpse of what to expect in the full motion picture.

While the storyline remains under wraps, Cruise previously said to Empire when probed about the movie, “It’s a hard thing for me to discuss at the moment, because it really is something that you have to experience.”

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is set for a cinematic release on May 21st, 2025.
