Britney Spears arrested in Southern California for alleged DUI

Britney Spears has been arrested in Ventura County, California, for allegedly driving under the influence.

According to TMZ, law enforcement revealed that the global popstar was handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol at around 9:30 pm local time on the evening of March 4th.

She was then booked by the sheriff’s department at around 3am, and was reportedly released from jail at around 6am, as per inmate records. Despite the DUI allegations, the sheriff’s office doesn’t give a clear reason for the arrest.

The 44-year-old’s vehicle is now allegedly in a tow lot. Official records show that she does not have a probation recommendation listed.

In 2007, Spears found herself in trouble with the law when facing four misdemeanor charges after an alleged hit-and-run with a parked car in Los Angeles. The charges were later dropped after the performer paid the vehicle’s owner in full for damages.

The arrest comes following a legal victory for Spears. Last week, the ‘Womanizer’ singer was granted a restraining order against a 51-year-old man who had been harassing her since 2013, making “disturbing social media posts” and showing up at her Los Angeles home, according to the court filings.

Last month, Spears admitted online that she is “lucky to even be alive” amid family tensions, which previously saw the performer accuse her father, family, and management of mistreatment and coercion.

At the time, referring to her famous family, she told her 42 million followers, “To be totally honest with you, no matter what he says, they will never take responsibility for what they did.”

A month prior, she made another cryptic comment, sharing with fans that she “will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons,” without revealing what exactly those reasons were.

Her last UK tour also took place in 2018, with Spears completing an arena tour, as well as dates in Scarborough, Blackpool, and headlining Brighton Pride. In 2022, she said that she “probably won’t perform again just because I’m stubborn and I will make my point.”
