Brit Awards 2026: Noel Gallagher named ‘Songwriter of the Year’

The Brit Awards have confirmed Oasis icon Noel Gallagher as ‘Songwriter of the Year’.

The ‘Songwriter of the Year’ award was first introduced in 2022 when Ed Sheeran was the inaugural winner. It has also been won by Kid Harpoon, Raye and Charli XCX. It is decided by a select panel of expert judges.

It has been confirmed by the Brits that Noel will be in attendance at the Co-op Live in Manchester on February 28th to accept the award in person.

The ‘Songwriter of the Year’ award will top off a triumphant 12 months for Gallagher after Oasis finally reunited in 2025 for Oasis Live ’25, which took them across the globe.

Stacey Tang, chair of the 2026 Brit Awards Committee and co-president of RCA Records at Sony Music UK, said: ”For more than three decades, Noel has crafted songs that have become part of our collective story – bold, brilliant, and always recognisable. His songs have soundtracked memories for multiple generations and defined the spirit of British music globally.”

Tang continued, “Honouring Noel as Songwriter of the Year celebrates a remarkable body of work and a creative force that continues to connect and inspire artists and fans worldwide.”

Gallagher is the third winner to be confirmed for the Brits. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Mark Ronson was set to be honoured with ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ and will also perform in Manchester. Jacob Alon had previously been named the ‘Critics’ Choice’ winner.

Artists confirmed to play at the ceremony include Wolf Alice and Olivia Dean, as well as Harry Styles’ first live performance in almost three years.

The nominations are led by Dean and Lola Young, with the two homegrown stars picking up five nods each.

Trailing closely behind is Sam Fender, who has secured four nominations. His third record, People Watching, is shortlisted for ‘Album of the Year’ with Fender also picking up nods in the ‘Artist of the Year’, ‘Best Rock/Alternative Act’, and ‘Song of the Year’ categories.

Jack Whitehall will host the ceremony on February 28th, which will also be shown on ITV 1 and ITV X.
