Brit Awards 2025: The Beatles nominated for first time in over 40 years
The Beatles have been nominated for their first Brit Award since 1983 with their 2023 single, ‘Now and Then’.
The Fab Four’s farewell track is shortlisted in the ‘Song of the Year’ category. Other notable nominees include Coldplay with ‘Feels Like I’m Falling in Love’, Dua Lipa with ‘Training Season’, Charli XCX and Billie Eilish’s ‘Guess’, Jade’s ‘Angel of My Dreams’ and ‘Backbone’ by Chase and Status with Stormzy.
The Beatles have previously won four Brit Awards, having won three prizes at the inaugural edition of the ceremony in 1977. In its first year, the Brit Awards celebrated all British music from 1952 to 1977 and only became an annual event in 1982. Notably, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club won ‘Best Album’ in 1977 and they were also named ‘Best British Group’.
Before 2025, the last time The Beatles were recognised by the Brit Awards was in 1983 when they were celebrated with the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’.
Upon release in 2023, ‘Now and Then’ reached number one in the UK singles chart, marking the first Beatles song to hit the top spot in 54 years. In a five-star review of the track, Far Out wrote: “As ever with The Beatles, it is a piece of art created with unrivalled chemistry even via the conduit of AI. This is evidenced by the wondrous syncopation of McCartney’s bass that rumbles perfectly beneath his old pals stabbing piano jabs. And the extra lashings of care that have gone into crafting a perfectly pitched score rather than wheeling out something half-cooked for the cash-in.”
Who else is nominated at the Brit Awards 2025?
Charli XCX is the most nominated artist at this year’s ceremony. In addition to being shortlisted in the ‘Song of the Year’ category, her album, Brat, has also been nominated for ‘Album of the Year’. Additionally, she is up for ‘Artist of the Year’, ‘Pop Act’ and ‘Dance Act’.
Meanwhile, The Last Dinner Party are trailing Charli XCX behind with four nominations. The indie band, who were crowned Brits Rising Star in 2024, have been nominated for ‘Group of the Year’, ‘Best New Artist’, ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Alternative/Rock Act’.
The Cure’s comeback with their first album in 16 years, Songs of a Lost World, has also been celebrated by the Brits. It has been shortlisted for ‘Album of the Year’, and the band are also in contention for ‘Alternative/Rock Act’ and ‘Group of the Year’.
