Brian Eno announces Palestine fundraiser at Wembley Arena
Brian Eno has confirmed details of a new Palestine fundraiser at London’s OVO Wembley Arena on September 17th.
The event, titled Together For Palestine, will also feature Khaled Ziada, Khalid Abdalla and Tracey Seaward as well as Eno.
Eno said of Together For Palestine: “I’ve had the good fortune to work with some of the world’s most remarkable artists for over 50 years. But one of my biggest regrets is that during that time so many of us have remained silent about Palestine.”
The ambient pioneer continued: “Often that silence has come from fear, real fear – that speaking out could provoke a backlash, close doors or end a career. But that’s now changing – partly because some artists and activists have lit the path, but mostly because the truth of what’s going on has become impossible to ignore.”
Eno also said the current scenes “we are witnessing in Gaza isn’t a mystery, and neither is it a blur of competing narratives making it ‘hard to understand’.”
While Eno aspires to “raise millions in urgently needed aid for families in Gaza”, he also states that “this is about more than just money”, elaborating, “It’s about sending a message of love and solidarity to the people of Palestine – that they haven’t been forgotten.”
Tickets for Together For Palestine go on sale on August 4th at 10am.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Paul Weller announced Gig For Gaza at London’s Troxy, which will raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) and Gaza Forever. He’ll be joined at the show, on October 17th, by Primal Scream, Inhaler and Maverick Sabre.
Additionally, Billy Bragg will hold Days Like These, in aid of Palestine, at The Troxy in London on September 20th. The bill also includes Jamie Webster, Reverend and the Makers and Antony Szmierek.
