Billy Bragg announces Palestine benefit concert in London
Billy Bragg has confirmed details of his new Palestine fundraiser, Days Like These, which will take place in September at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.
The upcoming event is in aid of the Amos Trust, who provide essential medical care, food and aid, as well as therapeutic trauma support for women and children in Palestine. They also offer support for young writers who are documenting the haunting situation in Palestine.
Press materials for the concert also state that the Amos Trust “partners with grass roots projects to call for a just peace, reconciliation and full equal rights for all Palestinians and Israelis.”
For the show, scheduled to take place on September 20th in West London, Bragg will be joined by Jamie Webster for a solo performance, Reverend and the Makers, who will perform an acoustic set, words from Antony Szmierek, and Big Special.
Other notable guests include the Palestinian-British writer/director Ahmed Masoud, actors Khalid Abdalla and Samuel West, plus Palestinian journalist/author Ahmed Alnaouq.
Tickets for the event go on sale at 17:00 on July 30th.
Bragg has been vocal in his support of Palestine, telling the PA in 2023: “You can’t change something so terrible as the current conflict that is going on in the Middle East, but you can at least add your voice to those who are asking for peace, those who are asking for respect for the lives of civilians.”
The ‘New England’ singer continued: “You can add your voice to that through music, and help other people who feel that way to express their solidarity through applause.”
Meanwhile, Paul Weller recently announced Gig For Gaza at London’s Troxy, which will raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) and Gaza Forever. He’ll be joined at the show, on October 17th, by Primal Scream, Inhaler and Maverick Sabre.
