Bono shares new trailer for ‘Stories of Surrender’ documentary
Apple TV+ have shared the new trailer for Bono’s upcoming Stories of Surrender documentary, which will be released on May 30th.
The synopsis tells that the documentary is a “bold and lyrical visual exploration of Bono’s one-man show by the same name.” We can expect Bono to “pull back the curtain on a remarkable life and the family, friends, and faith that have challenged and sustained him, revealing personal stories about his journey as a son, father, husband, activist and rockstar.”
The film, based on his celebrated memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, as well as the accompanying book and theatre tour, is from RadicalMedia and Plan B Entertainment.
Awash in greyscale, the trailer shows shots of Bono walking comfortably up and down a stage in front of a laughing audience. “I was born with my fists up; surrender does not come easy to me,” a voice-over states. Evidently, this is the origin of the title.
We also see him detail special, complex relationships. He reveals that he met his wife the very same week that he joined U2 and expands on the complexities of love and grief between himself and his parents. “I craved my father’s attention, so I sang louder and louder,” he says.
The documentary also represents a first for Apple. It will also be available on Apple Vision Pro, making it the first feature-length film in Apple Immersive Video. This media format is recorded in 8K with Spatial Audio to produce a 180-degree video that places viewers onstage with Bono and in the centre of his story.
The film is directed by Andrew Dominik, who also helmed the Nick Cave documentaries One More Time With Feeling and This Much I Know To Be True, while Brad Pitt is named as one of the producers alongside Jon Kamen and Dave Sirulnick.
An updated paperback version of the memoir will be released concurrently with the documentary film, which has been refined to mirror the arc of his one-man show and features a film tie-in book cover and a new introduction by the author.
