Bono’s ‘Stories of Surrender’ set to arrive on Apple TV+
U2 frontman Bono’s Stories of Surrender show is set to be adapted into a documentary for Apple TV+ and will premiere on their platform on May 30th, 2025.
The documentary will be a reworking of the singer’s one-man show Stories of Surrender: An Evening of Words, Music and Some Mischief.
It also compiles footage from his residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre in 2022 which took place in support of his book, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, A Memoir Told Through 40 U2 Songs.
A press release for the project described the film as a “bold exploration” of the Irishman’s life. It promises the film “pulls back the curtain on a remarkable life and the family, friends, and faith that have challenged and sustained him, revealing personal stories about his journey as a son, father, husband, activist, and rockstar.”
Alongside the premiere of the film, an “immersive” version will be featured on Apple Vision Pro. This piece is described as ”a remarkable media format recorded in 8K with Spatial Audio to produce a 180-degree video that places viewers onstage with Bono and in the center of his story.”
The documentary will be directed by Andrew Dominik, who also directed the Nick Cave documentaries One More Time With Feeling and This Much I Know To Be True, while Brad Pitt is named as one of the producers alongside Jon Kamen and Dave Sirulnick.
An updated paperback version of the memoir will be released concurrently with the documentary film, which has been refined to mirror the arc of his one-man show and features a film tie-in book cover and a new introduction by the author.
