Baftas 2024: David Beckham, Cate Blanchett and Idris Elba to present awards

Ahead of the Baftas ceremony on February 18th, the institution announced David Beckham, Cate Blanchett, and Idris Elba as presenters.

The latest edition of the prestigious film awards is set to take place at London’s Royal Festival Hall and will be hosted by David Tennant. The Scottish actor will be given a helping hand by a series of famous faces from the entertainment world, who have been enlisted by Bafta to dish out awards.

Beckham, Blanchett and Elba will be joined by Adjoa Andoh, Deepika Padukone, Hugh Grant, Lily Collins, Gillian Anderson, Emma Corrin, Himish Patel, and Dua Lipa. Meanwhile, former ‘Rising Star Award’ winner Jack O’Connell will present the accolade to either Phoebe Dynevor, Ayo Edebiri, Jacob Elordi, Mia McKenna-Bruce or Sophie Wilde.

Additionally, Ted Lasso star Hannah Wadingham has been confirmed to perform a cover song during the ceremony. However, no further details have been announced.

Following the renaissance of ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ following its inclusion in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be playing the song live.

In a statement, Emma Baehr, Executive Director of Awards and Content at Bafta, said: “It is a privilege to welcome so many nominees to the EE BAFTA Film Awards this Sunday, representing some of the best on-screen and behind-the-screen creative talent working in film today who have provided audiences worldwide with an incredible year of film.”

Baehr continued: “It is a joy to bring these 38 remarkable films and the teams that made them to public attention. With host David Tennant bringing his charm and charisma to the ceremony, and performances from Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Hannah Waddingham, it promises to be an entertaining show for all our nominees and guests at the Royal Festival Hall and the millions of people watching at home around the world.”

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer leads the nominations at the Baftas with a total of 13, including ‘Best Film’. Meanwhile, Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt have each also been shortlisted for their respective performances in the film.
