2024 BAFTA Rising Star Award nominees revealed
The British Academy has revealed the stars nominated for the 2024 BAFTA Rising Star award, recognising burgeoning talent in film.
Jacob Elordi, Ayo Edebiri, Phoebe Dynevor, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Sophie Wilde are all nominees for the only film award voted for by the public. Actor-producer Stephen Graham and film critic Ali Plumb will attend the event.
Anna Higgs, BAFTA’s film committee chair, led the panel, which comprised actors Daisy Edgar-Jones, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, and Himesh Patel, alongside casting directors Lucy Bevan, Nina Gold, and others.
Past recipients of the award have included notable talents such as Tom Hardy, Tom Holland, James McAvoy, John Boyega, Micheal Ward, and more.
“The nominees consist of five actors who have each demonstrated their remarkable talent in film over the past year, having captured the imagination of both the public and film industry alike,” BAFTA said.
Elordi, who is enjoying success following the release of Saltburn and Priscilla, said: “I am deeply honoured to be recognised by BAFTA and EE with a Rising Star nomination.”
Edebiri, who most recently starred in Bottoms, said: “It’s wonderful and humbling to receive this nomination. It’s the greatest privilege to tell stories and make people laugh. I know I’m in esteemed company and this means the world.”
Wilde, who played the endearing Mia in A24’s Talk To Me, said: “I am so very excited and grateful to BAFTA and EE for including me in this category and amongst this year’s brilliant nominees. To be recognised, and for Talk To Me, a film we all put so much love and hard work into is a privilege.”
The recipient of the 2024 BAFTA Rising Star award will be announced during the awards ceremony on February 18th, 2024, which is set to be hosted by David Tennant.
