David Tennant to host the 77th Baftas
Scottish actor David Tennant has been selected to present the 77th Baftas this year, which will take place on February 19th at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
Tennant rose to prominence playing the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who from 2005 to 2010, becoming known as one of the most beloved versions of the iconic Time Lord.
The actor has also starred in Broadchurch, Good Omens, Jessica Jones and the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, building up an extensive list of acting credits over the years.
Discussing the opportunity to present the Baftas, one of the most significant film award ceremonies of the year, Tennant revealed that he is “delighted to help celebrate the very best of this year’s films and the many brilliant people who bring them to life.”
The nominations for the Baftas, also known as the British Academy Film Awards, will be announced on January 18th, 2024.
The ceremony was presented by actor Richard E. Grant and presenter Alison Hammond in 2023, with Australian actor Rebel Wilson stepping into the role the previous year.
One of the ceremony’s chief executives, Jane Millichip, announced that she was “over the moon” that Tennant will be presenting the prestigious event.
She added, “He is deservedly beloved by British and international audiences alike. His warmth, charm and mischievous wit will make it a must-watch show.”
The Banshees of Inisherin duo Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan picked up the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ and ‘Best Supporting Actor’ awards, respectively, amid a huge night for the production. While All Quiet on the Western Front landed the ‘Best Film’ gong.
