Astronomer hires Gwyneth Paltrow as spokesperson after Coldplay kiss cam scandal
After the CEO of Astronomer was caught having an affair with their chief people officer, the company have capitalised on the scandal and hired Gwyneth Paltrow for a new promo.
The scandal began when Coldplay performed their song ‘Sparks’ at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The band then turned their attention to the crowd. They singled out attendees and cast them on a big screen on a kiss cam. During this segment of the show, Chief of People Kristin Cabot and CEO Andy Byron were caught in an embrace despite both being married.
The viral clip of the affair has since been parodied on television shows and at sports games, and even Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher referenced it at one of their reunion shows. Byron resigned first, and Cabot followed a few days later.
No official statement came from either party involved, though the alleged CEO issued a fraudulent response using the lyrics from the Coldplay song ‘Fix You’. Here, Astronomer stepped in, announcing an internal investigation into the situation. They also stated that the widely circulated response from Byron was a parody.
Despite the attention placed on the company, Astronomer had promised in a previous statement to focus purely on its product from now on. They promised, “While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not. We’re continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems.”
Now, they have gone one step further and hired Hollywood actor Gwyneth Paltrow to star in a new infomercial for their business. The one-minute video depicts Paltrow, the ex-wife of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, sitting behind a desk in business attire.
“I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300+ employees at Astronomer. Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones,” she announced.
The question appearing on the screen then read, “OMG! What the actual f—” before Paltrow jumped in to affirm, “Yes! Astronomer is the best place to run Apache Airflow.” She described their data-optimisation model, before another question read, “How is your social media team holding—” before, again, Paltrow diverted attention towards an upcoming data and analytics summit of theirs.
“Thank you for your interest in Astronomer,” Paltrow smiles. Watch the epic masterclass in crisis management below.
