Astronomer CEO Andy Byron resigns following Coldplay affair incident
Tech CEO Andy Byron announced his resignation from Astronomer following a viral moment when he was caught having an affair with co-worker at a Coldplay concert.
Following a moment captured on the kiss cam during a performance of the song ‘Sparks’, frontman Chris Martin singled out Byron in the crowd embracing Astronomer’s head of HR, Kristin Cabot. Martin then commented that the couple were either involved in an affair or were incredibly shy as they ducked out of frame.
Now, after several shakeups with Byron’s company, Astronomer has announced the CEO’s decision to step down, saying, “Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted. The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO.”
Until then, Astronomer had announced that they had been looking into a formal investigation involving the footage that had since gone viral online. As they decided on how to properly assess the situation, the company announced that Byron had been put on leave following the incident, with Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy stepping in for him.
Upon first hearing about the incident, the tech company made an announcement regarding his behaviour, saying, “Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability.”
They also mentioned clarifying Byron’s official statement on the matter, given that a fraudulent statement clarifying his intentions at the concert was floating around online. Since then, the company has verified that he hadn’t released the statement and would be looking into the situation.
Despite the attention placed on the company, Astronomer has promised to focus purely on their product going forward, saying, “While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not. We’re continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data & AI problems.”
Since the announcement, Byron has not released an official statement addressing his actions during the concert. There has also been no word from Byron’s wife, but she did remove his name from her social media accounts within 24 hours of the video going viral.
