Armie Hammer set to return to acting following sexual misconduct allegations
Actor Armie Hammer will be returning to the big screen after a three-year hiatus. In 2021, he was forced to step away from Hollywood in the wake of several sexual assault allegations and has kept a low profile ever since.
His new project, Frontier Crucible, will be a Western helmed by director Travis Mills, whose previous credits include Heart of the Gun, Texas Red, and Bastard’s Crossing. The movie will be independently financed.
The film is based on the 1961 novel Desert Stake-Out by Harry Whittington. Producer Dallas Sonnier, whose previous work includes the gritty Western Bone Tomahawk, pitched the story as Reservoir Dogs meets Bone Tomahawk.
Set in Arizona in the 1870s, the story follows a former soldier, played by Myles Clohessy, who is forced to join three outlaw, portrayed by Thomas Jane, Hammer, and Jonah Kagen, as well as a woman and her wounded husband, Mary Stickley and Zane Holtz, in order to survive the rugged frontier.
The upcoming movie is just one part of Hammer’s attempted comeback to Hollywood. The star of box office and critical successes like The Social Network, Call Me by Your Name, and Free Fire, recently launched a podcast. However, Hammer still does not have an agency or a publicist.
The allegations against Armie Hammer
In 2021, multiple women came forward to accuse Hammer of rape and assault. The allegations included accusations that he had branded them, left them covered in bruises, and expressed a desire to cook and eat parts of their bodies. One of his accusers reported having contracted post-traumatic stress disorder from the experience.
An investigation was launched into the actor by the Los Angeles Police Department in 2021, but in 2023, the authorities decided not to press charges due to a lack of evidence.
Following the allegations, Hammer was dropped by his agents and publicist, and either backed out or was dropped from all of his upcoming projects. At the time, his most recent film, Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile, had yet to be released, and he was all but erased from the publicity campaign.
During an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored earlier this year, Morgan posed the question if Hammer had indeed eaten anyone, and the actor simply replied, “No.”
However, he did admit to branding a former partner with a knife, recalling, “There was a scenario that we talked about beforehand, that we had discussed where, you know, I would basically take a little, tiny point and just kind of trace the letter ‘A’ – just like the tip of a small knife.”
Frontier Crucible is currently in pre-production, and the actor recently shared a post on Instagram holding the script.
