Collecting considerable speed before its release next year, Disney’s yet-untitled Indiana Jones 5, is currently filming in Glasgow, Scotland with cast members, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Harrison Ford and the recently announced Antonio Banderas.
Just like Waller-Bridge, the true nature of Banderas’ role is unknown, though he certainly adds to an increasingly impressive ensemble cast which includes Another Round’s Mads Mikkelsen.
Recent behind-the-scenes shots show Waller-Bridge in a vintage jacket and jeans, suggesting she will likely play one of Ford’s allies, as opposed to a stylish antagonist.
Filming on the latest instalment of the franchise is currently on hold following an injury Harrison Ford sustained to his shoulder whilst on set. A Disney spokesperson said in a statement at the time, “In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder”.
Adding: “Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated. The filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.”
Joining the cast in April, Waller-Bridge’s addition to the team has got fans around the world excited to see the Fleabag star in a more action-centred role, with even James Mangold expressing his joy. “I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers,” the director commented. “When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”
Director of 2017s Wolverine story Logan, as well as Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line in 2005, James Mangold is the first filmmaker to helm an Indiana Jones project other than Steven Spielberg. Instead, the master filmmaker will drop to an executive producer role whilst John Williams is returning to pen the film’s iconic score.
Indiana Jones 5 is set for release on July 29, 2022, until then, take a look at the trailer for Indiana Jones’ last adventure below:
