Angelina Jolie makes fresh abuse allegations against Brad Pitt
In new court documents, filed on April 4th, lawyers representing Angelina Jolie have made new abuse allegations against her former husband Brad Pitt.
The latest development comes as the former married couple continue to be entangled in a legal dispute over the ownership of a French vineyard. Pitt previously accused Jolie of selling her portion of shares to a Russian billionaire without his consent. The couple, who divorced in 2016, purchased the Château Miraval property in Provence in 2008.
Last year, Jolie’s company, Nouvel, filed a lawsuit against Pitt and his business partners, claiming the Hollywood star had behaved like a “petulant child” over the French vineyard they formerly owned together.
Now, in a new filing, Jolie’s legal team have filed a motion they hope will allow them to release documents they perceive to be evidence that Pitt would only give her permission to selling her stakes in the winery if she signed an “expansive” non-disclosure agreement.
In 2022, Jolie previously made allegations of abuse against Pitt, claiming that he “choked” one of their children while they were on a private jet journey from France to Los Angeles in 2016, which she claims directly led to their divorce.
The previous court filings from 2022 also alleged that Pitt “struck another” one of their children “in the face” and “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her” before pouring alcohol at her on the private jet.
In the new motion, Jolie’s lawyers claim: “While Pitt’s history of physical abuse of Jolie started well before the family’s September 2016 plane trip from France to Los Angeles, this flight marked the first time he turned his physical abuse on the children as well. Jolie then immediately left him.”
While Pitt is yet to respond to the new allegations in the latest filing, his lawyer, Anne Kiley, previously denied all allegations of abuse in 2022.
“Brad has owned everything he’s responsible for from day one —unlike the other side — but he’s not going to own anything he didn’t do. He has been on the receiving end of every type of personal attack and misrepresentation,” Kiley said.
The lawyer continued: “Thankfully, the various public authorities the other side has tried to use against him over the past six years have made their own independent decisions,” Kiley continued. “Brad will continue to respond in court as he has consistently done.”
Meanwhile, last year, Jolie explained why she has reduced her filming schedule and claimed she hasn’t “been myself for a decade”.
Although Jolie didn’t go into the specific reasons behind her decision, she did say: “We had a lot of healing to do. We’re still finding our footing.”
