Aaron Taylor-Johnson lands starring role in Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’

English actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson will team up once again with director Robert Eggers for his next project, Werwulf.

Their previous collaboration, Nosferatu, set a new bar for Eggers. Not only did the film receive an overwhelmingly positive response from critics, but it grossed over $181.3 million worldwide, making it the director’s most successful by this metric to date.

Werwulf will be based on a script co-written by Eggers and Icelandic poet and author Sjón, with whom he wrote 2022’s The Northman. It will be another horror movie in keeping with the director’s signature gothic style.

Lily-Rose Depp, who also starred alongside Taylor-Johnson in Nosferatu to deliver a harrowing and emotional performance, is in talks about joining the project.

In a four-star review of Nosferatu, Far Out wrote, “Regardless of your previous experiences with Eggers’s work or Dracula lore, it is better to go into this movie without expectations. It is the director’s most delicate work to date and contributes something new to the Nosferatu story. It excels on both counts.”

Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are producing alongside Eggers and Sjón. Additionally, Maiden Voyage’s Chris and Eleanor Columbus are serving as executive producers, making up a stellar behind-the-scenes team.

Taylor-Johnson has recently made the headlines for other reasons. At the premiere of 28 Years Later in London on June 18th, which stars Taylor-Johnson alongside Jodie Comer, the English actor was tight-lipped when asked about his next project, replying with cryptic “I can’t talk about it,” to any questions thrown his way.

This is news-worthy given that no information has come to light regarding the next James Bond movie, including who might fill the role of the titular character. Taylor-Johnson, in one way or another, has been linked to the project for years.

Werwulf is currently set for a Christmas Day 2026 release in North America.
