’28 Years Later’ star Aaron Taylor-Johnson fuels James Bond rumours with cryptic answer
28 Years Later actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has further fuelled rumours he’s set to become the face of the James Bond franchise.
The next installment of the 007 series is currently gathering pace after Amazon MGM Studios gained complete control in February over the franchise after lengthy negotiations with the previous owners, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, whose family owned the rights ever since their father, Albert R Broccoli, brought the first movie to the screen in 1962.
In April, it was confirmed that producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, who have been brought in to oversee Bond, are currently in London working on the franchise.
While no information has come to light regarding the next movie and who will play Bond, Taylor-Johnson has been in the frame for several years.
At the premiere of 28 Years Later in London on June 18th, which stars Taylor-Johnson alongside Jodie Comer, the English actor was tight-lipped when asked about his next project, coyly replying to a Deadline journalist, “I can’t talk about it,” before being ushered away.
Taylor-Johnson has already received the support of one former Bond, Pierce Brosnan. “This young man came on the set and took the space, filled the space with passion and energy,” Brosnan said about his experience of working with Taylor-Johnson on 2009’s The Greatest during an interview earlier this year.”
He continued: “So yeah, I think if he wished it, wanted it and got it, he would be great.”
In 2023, Taylor-Johnson addressed the speculation linking him with the role, telling Vanity Fair, “It’s flattering. You can have something really positive [written about you], but you can also have something really negative that can circulate. You just want to stay in your lane.”
28 Years Later arrives in cinemas on June 20th. Taylor-Johnson has also wrapped filming on two other movies, Fuze and Blood on Snow, but it’s unclear what other projects he has in the pipeline beyond these pictures.
