Danny Boyle teases direction of ’28 Years Later’ as Jodie Comer claims “It’s so good!”
Danny Boyle and Jodie Comer have taken part in a Q&A session for the upcoming film 28 Years Later, teasing the direction for the much-anticipated sequel.
The filmmaker appeared alongside lead actor Comer and co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson at an event in New York on June 1st, in which the trio discussed the hype for the movie, some 23 years on from when its first instalment hit the big screen.
Recalling the impact of the original film, Comer said: “I was relatively young when it came out, but I always remember how it made me feel. For something to be so original, so heightened, and have this element of terror and fear, but ultimately be about human connection – that really struck me. I felt like I’d never seen anything like it before.”
Later, as Boyle explained the transformative approach to filmmaking on the project, having largely been shot using an iPhone 15 Pro Max, he noted to the audience that the film “doesn’t go where you think it’s going to go,” before Comer chimed in, “Guys, it’s so good!”
He continued: “That was really important for us as filmmakers, and I think what attracted us to this calibre of actors. What Alex [Garland, the film’s writer] and I were determined to do was surprise people – it’s why Sony won’t show the whole film yet because they want it to be revealed as late as possible for the pleasure of the storytelling.”
Boyle again highlighted that “the storytelling element isn’t what you think it is,” before appealing that, “We made it for you, especially for the fans, because it’s the fans that sustain it.”
28 Years Later will be released in cinemas on June 20th, 2025.
