Zohran Mamdani confirms eye-watering fee Taylor Swift paid New York for flashy Madison Square Garden wedding

New York mayor Zohran Mamdani has confirmed the staggering fee that Taylor Swift paid New York City to host her star-studded wedding at Madison Square Garden.

On July 3rd, during one of the busiest weekends of the year in the Big Apple, Swift shut down roads around the iconic venue to host her wedding to American footballer Travis Kelce.

Over 1,000 guests attended to watch Swift and Kelce swap vows; as a result, at least three blocks were closed to the public, and a heavy NYPD presence was required for extreme safety measures.

On July 10th, Mandani was asked whether Swift would be paying for the police overtime needed for the event; his response revealed that she had “already paid” the sum

“Taylor Swift has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event,” Mandani said.

He continued, “And that was a permit that was finalised, I think, just the days before the event itself.”

At the ceremony, comedian and actor Adam Sandler was the officiant; the former SNL star previously worked with Kelce on Happy Gilmore 2.

Additionally, official reports shared that Paul McCartney took to the stage during the reception to deliver a rendition of The Beatles’ classic ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’.

Swift recently took to social media to give it her seal of approval for McCartney’s latest album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, writing on Instagram Stories, “Never not inspired by this eternally exceptional artist.”

Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks also provided musical entertainment at the wedding, though sources have not shared which songs she performed.

As for Mamdani, the newly elected mayor has been enjoying a successful 2026 after becoming the first Muslim and first Asian American mayor in New York. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Mamdani is still receiving royalties from his previous life as a “C-list” rapper.
