Zack Snyder teams up with Dana White and Saudi Arabian regime for new UFC movie

Zack Snyder is set to team up with UFC boss Dana White and the Saudi Arabia General Entertainment Authority (GEA) to direct a new movie, Brawler.

It was announced on March 31st that the American filmmaker will direct the project, and write it alongside executive producers Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, who previously worked with Snyder on 2023’s Rebel Moon.

According to its synopsis, the movie will depict a young fighter from Los Angeles who survives being shot at a UFC championship as he battles for revenge.

Snyder said: “Behind every great fighter is the story of how they got there. UFC is the world leader in combat sports, and I’m honoured to be partnering with them to tell this incredible story.”

The head of the Saudi Arabia GEA, Turki Alalshikh, and the UFC’s Chief Content Officer, Craig Borsari, will also partner with Snyder as executive producers of the film.

Alalshikh noted: “I’ve been a fan of Zack’s work for years, his unique style – from his iconic action sequences to his sweeping visuals and intensely emotional storytelling – coupled with his humanised portrayal of deeply flawed characters is singular, I couldn’t think of a better person to partner with to bring the UFC to the big screen.”

Additionally, in his capacity as CEO of UFC, White said: “HE Turki Alalshikh and Zack Snyder have a shared vision to create a film about UFC. They are both very passionate about this project to show fans what it takes to become a UFC champion. It’s an incredibly ambitious project and I look forward to seeing it come to life.”

A release date or production timeline for Brawler has not yet been announced.
