Wolf Alice replace Clairo at Primavera Sound in Barcelona

Only hours after Wolf Alice announced details of their fourth album, The Clearing, and the release of the new single, ‘Bloom Baby Bloom,’ Primavera Sound announced that they will be joining the line-up in Barcelona.

After indie-pop star Clairo recently pulled out of the festival due to logistical issues, a spot was up for grabs on the evening of June 6th, between Sabrina Carpenter, HAIM, and Wet Leg. Now, on May 16th, Primavera Sound released an Instagram post confirming that Wolf Alice will fill the spot.

Wolf Alice’s last album, Blue Weekend, garnered them even more success, including a number one album in the UK and a nomination for the Mercury Prize. With the new single ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, vocalist Ellie Rowsell said, “I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman.”

The festival has used the hopeful title of the track as an introduction to the band in the short post. This will be the band’s first time playing the Spanish festival.

The band have described their upcoming album, The Clearing, as “both playful and serious, ironic and straight-talking” and “a progressive shift from a band whose exploration of love, loss and human connection has already articulated the coming-of-age experience for a whole generation”.

The Clearing will be released via Sony Music on August 29th. In the run-up, the band is set to play intimate shows in Ireland next week before appearing before larger crowds at BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend and Glastonbury. And now, of course, Primavera in Barcelona.

Other artists set to attend the Spanish festival next month include Charli XCX, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, LCD Soundsystem, FKA Twigs, HAIM, Fontaines DC, Idles and more.
