Wolf Alice release emotional new single ‘The Sofa’

Wolf Alice have released their second single, ‘The Sofa’, from their upcoming album, The Clearing.

The band had teased the song before their colossal Glastonbury set on social media when they posted a 40-second snippet of ‘The Sofa’ along with a homemade video of vocalist Ellie Rowsell singing along to the track, which features lines such as, “I can be happy, I can be sad, I can be a bitch when I get mad.”

The track has also been played live multiple times, such as during their performance at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound. The power ballad, beginning with reflective piano chords that are built upon throughout, allows the band a moment to pause, to take stock of where they’ve ended up.

“It’s about not trying so hard to figure everything out, reflecting on getting older and trying not to agonise over things that have or haven’t happened in your life,” Rowsell explained in a press statement.

She continued, “It’s also about trying to get to grips with the polarising aspects of one’s life when you’re in a band. You’ve just played a huge tour – and you come home, and you have your dinner on the sofa. For me, it’s summed up in how I treat TV. I used to never watch the same thing twice because I thought I’ve got so much to discover! And now I’m like, It’s okay if I just want to rewatch Peep Show for the thirteenth time.”

Fans will most likely have the opportunity to hear this live; later this year, Wolf Alice will head out on their first headline UK arena tour, which includes huge dates at The O2 in London and the AO Arena in Manchester. The colossal tour will span three continents from September to December 2025. For each UK ticket sold, £1 will go towards donations to grassroots venue fundraising efforts.

The Clearing will now be available on August 22nd, a week earlier than originally announced.
