Wolf Alice bring release date for new album ‘The Clearing’ forward
Wolf Alice have announced that their new album, The Clearing, will be released a week earlier than previously announced.
Taking to social media to announce the move, Wolf Alice shared a short statement revealing that The Clearing will now “be released a week earlier” on August 22nd rather than August 29th, as originally planned. No further information on the change in direction was provided.
They made the announcement alongside a promising update on their next single, ‘The Sofa’, which will be available to listen to from July 11th. Singer Ellie Rowsell teased fans with a 40-second snippet of ‘The Sofa’ along with a homemade video showing the vocalist singing along to the track, which features lines such as, “I can be happy, I can be sad, I can be a bitch when I get mad.”
While no reason has been given for the change of release date, notably Sabrina Carpenter’s new album, Man’s Best Friend, is set to be released on August 29th, which is also when Wolf Alice initially planned to share The Clearing.
However, by moving their album forward by a week, Wolf Alice will not be locked in a chart battle with one of the biggest artists on the planet and will have a greater chance at a number-one record. CMAT, The Beths, and The Beaches will also all release full-length projects on August 29th.
The news also comes after Wolf Alice played for an enormous crowd at Glastonbury Festival on June 29th. Far Out praised the performance, writing, “The band were on top form during the huge hit. North London performer Ellie Rowsell led the crowd through all the high notes, appearing moved as she heard the sound echo gently back to her. Wolf Alice filled the space, and then some, proving their indie-rock anthems are arena-ready.”
Later this year, Wolf Alice will head out on their first headline UK arena tour, which includes huge dates at The O2 in London and the AO Arena in Manchester. The colossal tour will span three continents from September to December 2025. For each UK ticket sold, £1 will go towards donations to grassroots venue fundraising efforts.
The Clearing will now be available on August 22nd.
