Watch video for new Neil Young track ‘Stand For Peace’
Rock musician Neil Young has released a new video titled ‘Stand for Peace’. It features him playing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ on his electric guitar.
Clocking in at two minutes and 50 seconds, the new clip is purely instrumental and features the typically gritty guitar work of the ‘Canadian Godfather of Grunge’. Overdriven and fuzzy, he plays the central refrain of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’, the American national anthem, atop a small stage with a disco ball spinning and a tattered version of the titular flag on show.
The rendition gradually morphs into a noisy palette of feedback as Young creates tension with his droning guitar. The video was directed by the musician’s wife, the Kill Bill: Vol. 2 actor Daryl Hannah, and concludes with the messages “Be Brave” and “Stand For Peace”.
Earlier this week, Neil Young announced his departure from Twitter. In a statement addressing the conflict between the state of Israel and Hamas in Palestine, he explained: “For our many Palestinian friends and our many Jewish friends, we do need to start over in the present and release our terrible connections to the past.”
He continued: “As bad as they are, they need to be forgotten so we can be free to move on in life together, all humanity, focused on saving our planet for future generations of all people.”
In October, Neil Young also announced his new album, Before and After. Scheduled for a December 8th release, the new record will see him re-imagine various obscure songs from his extensive oeuvre. This ranges from his earliest Buffalo Springfield track ‘Burned’ to ‘Don’t Forget Love’, which appeared on 2021’s Barn. It will be released through Reprise Records.
