Watch Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp take on AC/DC in new Halloween special
Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp have returned with hellish intent to their weekly Sunday Lunch video covers series. This time, the pair gets spooky with a ‘Highway to Hell’ cover.
The husband and wife duo began their online series on YouTube five years ago. Their channel is known for wild and wacky takes on classic rock songs. In their latest episode, this energy was no different as they appeared dressed in spooky Halloween outfits, plunging into a zany cover of AC/DC’s classic 1979 hit, ‘Highway to Hell’.
The satanic hit was their first to chart in the US, which helped to drive up eventual sales to over seven million copies in America.
Fripp is a British guitarist and the founder of the progressive rock band King Crimson. His wife, Willcox, is a singer, songwriter, actor, and television presenter known for her punk and new wave music, such as the 1981 hit ‘Thunder in the Mountains’.
After barrelling through the forceful verse and chorus, they end the tune with an ominous move, pulling their faces closer and closer to the camera. Behind his mask, Fripp says, “Welcome to Toyah and Robert’s really frightening and incredibly scary Sunday Lunch. Grr!” As he growls for the viewers, Willcox gnashes her teeth together.
At the very end, there is a blooper, where Robert plays the wrong note and shouts, “Bollocks!”
The cover comes as the latest instalment to the Sunday Lunch series, where the couple have also recently taken on hits such as Bikini Kill’s spunky ‘Rebel Girl’.
They also covered the iconic Cream hit ‘Sunshine of Your Love’; taking the name of the band literally, Willcox poured pots of single cream on her body and her hair, before embracing her husband at the end of the performance, covering him in the mess.
Despite being unable to fully see him behind the disguise, Fripp appears to be in good health. The star recently revealed that he had suffered a heart attack back in May and had been forced to postpone all work commitments. Meanwhile, Willcox has began a solo tour of the UK, which started at the Union Chapel in London on October 18th.
