Watch Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp take on ‘Rebel Girl’ in latest ‘Sunday Lunch’ video
Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp have returned with spunk to their weekly Sunday Lunch video covers series. This time, the pair take on the iconic Bikini Kill hit ‘Rebel Girl’ for its latest instalment.
The husband and wife duo, who began their series on YouTube five years ago, are known for their crazy takes on classic rock songs. In their latest episode, this energy was no different as they adorned zany headgear and nodded in time for a merry cover of the 1993 hit ‘Rebel Girl’.
Willcox is a singer, songwriter, actress, and television presenter known for her punk and new wave music, while Fripp is a British guitarist, founder of the progressive rock band King Crimson.
The cover comes as the latest instalment to the Sunday Lunch series, where the couple have also recently taken on hits such as the Ohio Express song ‘Yummy Yummy Yummy’.
They also covered the iconic Cream hit ‘Sunshine of Your Love’; taking the band name quite literally, Willcox poured pots of single cream first over her body and then her hair, before embracing her husband at the end of the performance, covering him in the dairy product.
In the new video, Fripp provides the charged guitar line for over a minute and then concludes the display with a huge smile, saying, “Yes! It’s ‘Rebel Girl’,” pointing to Willcox, before deeming it a “revolutionary” ‘Sunday Lunch’ instalment. Willcox then whispers, “And I want to try your clothes on…” in a callback to the famous lyrics.
Despite the extra smiles, Fripp recently revealed that he had suffered a heart attack back in May and had been forced to postpone all work commitments. Meanwhile, Willcox is shortly set to embark on a solo tour of the UK, which is set to begin at the Union Chapel in London on October 18th.
