Watch ‘The Odyssey’ take on epic proportions in new trailer

A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie, The Odyssey, has arrived, revealing the scope, scale, and magnitude of the epic story.

The trailer was first shared during an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, on which director Christopher Nolan was a guest.

The official trailer finally unveils the central themes and ostensible plot of Homer’s ancient Greek story, with first glimpses of Charlize Theron as Circe and Robert Pattinson as Antinous, attempting to steal Ithaca from Odysseus as he works his way back home to his family and kingdom.

Pattinson’s character attempts to woo Anne Hathaway’s beautiful Penelope; as Odysseus’ son Telemachus, played by Tom Holland, fights to resist the threats to the throne, Antinous tells him cuttingly, “You’re pining for a daddy you didn’t even know, like some sniveling bastard.”

Beyond the fraught relationships, the trailer is jam-packed with hints of iconic action scenes, such as Odysseus battling the Cyclops, declaring victory in the Trojan War, and encountering the Laestrygonians, a cannibalistic race of giants.

The trailer also boasts that the film will make history as the first narrative feature shot entirely on IMAX cameras. Tickets for advanced 70mm screenings went on sale a year in advance.

Beyond the A-listers depicted in the trailer, the film boasts a stellar supporting line-up not limited to Travis Scott, Jon Bernthal, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Mia Goth.

Elsewhere, Holland has gushed about the project, promising a feast for the eyes: “I can tell you that it is an absolute masterpiece, and I’m taking myself out of that equation. Chris Nolan’s movie is fantastic. It’s unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before.”

Additionally, the English actor was full of praise for co-star Damon, who provided “words of wisdom that he’s given me that I’ll keep to myself”, but also “really set the tone for everyone as to how we were going to collectively make this film”.

The Odyssey will hit cinemas on July 17th.
