Watch the first trailer for five-part Martin Scorsese documentary ‘Mr Scorsese’

The first trailer for the five-part documentary exploring the epic life and works of Martin Scorsese has been released.

The official synopsis states that the documentary will explore “he many facets of a visionary who redefined filmmaking, including his extraordinary career and unique personal history. With exclusive, unrestricted access to Scorsese’s private archives, the documentary series is anchored by extensive conversations with the filmmaker himself and never-before-seen interviews with friends, family and creative collaborators.”

The star-studded line-up includes Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Thelma Schoonmaker, Steven Spielberg, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, Paul Schrader, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Jay Cocks, and Rodrigo Prieto. Interviews with his children, wife Helen Morris, and close childhood friends will also be included.

The synopsis shares that the documentary will begin by examining his New York University student films and continuing to the present day to, ultimately, “Explore the themes that have fascinated Scorsese and informed his work, including the place of good and evil in the fundamental nature of humankind.”

The documentary comes from the visionary director Rebecca Miller, known for directing and writing films such as Personal Velocity, The Ballad of Jack and Rose, and Maggie’s Plan. She is married to actor Daniel Day-Lewis.

Miller previously said of the documentary upon its announcement: “I am so grateful to have been given the artistic freedom and access to create a cinematic portrait of one of our greatest living artists, Martin Scorsese.”

The newly shared trailer opens with “Who are we? Are we intrinsically good or evil? This is the struggle. And I struggle with it all the time.” The clip then continues with epic snippets from a range of Scorsese’s work.

He then adds, “I knew I could express myself with pictures, but I had to find my own way.”

The documentary will be available on streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ from October 17th.
