Watch Pete Davidson return to ‘Saturday Night Live’ for ICE takedown skit
Pete Davidson made a surprise return for the 1000th episode of Saturday Night Live, featuring as Trump-appointed Border Czar Tom Homan, who discusses the “mission” in Minneapolis with the ICE troops on the ground.
Davidson’s Homan first explained why “the last guy”, Border Control Commander Greg Bovino, was dismissed.
He shared, “It wasn’t because he did a bad job or publicly lied about the shooting of an American citizen or even, uh oh, dressed like a Nazi! It was because he was filmed doing these things. The president no-likey like that.”
Davidson went on to ask the ICE agents what they were looking for in Minneapolis: One responded, “Epstein files!”
Davidson’s character retaliated: “No, we actually just released those to distract from this, which is ironic, because we did this to distract from those.”
Later in the skit, he also touched upon the irony of using “force” when “the job ultimately is about keeping America safe from… what?”
One ICE agent made another timely quip, responding, “This could be wrong, but… Don Lemon?” Earlier this week, the former CNN anchor, Lemon, was arrested for covering an anti-ICE protest.
Eventually, Davidson’s character had had enough: “I’m Tom Homan, okay? I’m the separating-families-at-the-border guy! I’m the on-film-taking-a-$50,000-bribe guy, and you all are making me look like the upstanding, reasonable adult in the room! That’s crazy!”
The ICE agents still seemed inexplicably confused at his outburst over their behaviour, with one responding: “This could be wrong, but you hired a bunch of angry, aggressive guys, gave us guns and didn’t train us. So this is maybe what you wanted to happen?”
In one last-ditch attempt to control the situation, Davidson pleaded, “Let’s do our job without violating anyone’s rights as Americans. Can you do that?” The ICE agents’ response? “No.”
This isn’t the first time that the late-night show has ironised the situation in Minneapolis. On January 17th, a six-minute skit saw James Austin Johnson take on the President’s likeness and run through his latest “legal-ish” political moves.
